So I know we are only a month and a half into 2017, but there has already been a bunch of announcements from Disney! From the worst to the best, I’m going to recap everything that has been announced, and is upcoming for both Disney parks.

1. Prices Have Gone Up

This one is really a bummer, because most people I know and talk to already consider the Disney parks to be pretty expensive. Now, it is even more expensive.

General parking has gone up from $18 to $20 at Disneyland, and both parks have received a $5 increase on their base 1-Day Ticket. If you have an annual pass, unfortunately you’re not in too much luck either.

At Disneyland, both the California and California Select annual passes have gone up $10 in price, while the Deluxe pass received a $20 increase. The Disney Signature, Signature Plus, and Premier Passport did not receive an increase.

As for Walt Disney World, well… every single annual pass (except for the Premier Passport of course) got a price hike. Ugh. The Disney Platinum, Platinum Plus, and Silver passes received $30 increases (wow) and the Disney Gold, Weekday Select, and Epcot after 4 received a $10 jump.

I guess Rumpelstiltskin really meant it when he said “All magic comes with a price!”

2. MagicBand 2 Is Here

The MagicBand 2 was technically announced in November of last year, but it has finally made its way into our hands in 2017. For those of you that don’t know, MagicBands essentially serve as your number one accessory during your Walt Disney World visit. It can serve as a park entry ticket, gives access to FastPass+ selections, and also connect to Disney’s PhotoPass service. And if you’re staying at a Walt Disney World hotel, it can also serve as a room key and allows you to make purchases too! With this new version of the MagicBand, it’s curvier design is supposedly much more comfortable and it offers a “detachable disk that can be put into an accessory called the MagicKeeper.”

 3. Rivers of Light

When I first heard the announcement of this new nighttime experience earlier this month, I was pleasantly surprised. But when I found out that it would officially open the week after, I was shocked! Rivers of Light is a beautiful experience that is better described in pictures than words, so take a look:

At the time of this blog post it will officially be opened at Animal Kingdom, so make sure to get your FastPass+ reservations as soon as you can!

4. May 27th!

I was initially going to make this into two separate topics, but then I realized they were both coming on the same date! “They,” meaning “Pandora—World of Avatar” and “Guardians of the Galaxy—Mission: BREAKOUT!

We first heard word earlier this month that World of Avatar would be coming to Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World on May 27th. Two rides will be debuting at the park, the first being a family friendly water ride called “Na’vi River Journey,” which will “bring journeying guests through a bioluminescent rainforest, showcasing native fauna reminiscent of the film’s glowing environment.”

The second ride, “Avatar Flight of Passage,” is supposedly rather similar to Disney’s “Soarin’” ride, which “allows guests to take a trip atop a Banshee over the world of Pandora.” I love water rides and have always really enjoyed Soarin’, so I’m excited to visit World of Avatar ASAP!

Now Guardians of the Galaxy—Mission: BREAKOUT is essentially a super remixed version of Tower of Terror, featuring the same infrastructure and ride system. The difference here though is not only the introduction of the Guardians of the Galaxy theme, but the ride will feature much more movement throughout the ride, unlike Tower of Terror. Joe Rohde, the creative lead on the project, had this to say at a media preview in January:

“The previous ride was a mystery ride. It invested more than half of its entire time in building the mystery. This is a comedy-action-adventure-prison-break farce. We need none of that time. So we invest immediately in movement.”

As much as drop rides terrify me, I am still pretty excited to try this ride for the first time when it comes to Disney California Adventure this summer. It’s also going to launch alongside the Summer of Heroes event that will last until Sept. 10th. This event will allow you to interact and see a bunch of different Marvel superheroes for the first time!

Now last, but not least…

Even if you aren’t a big Star Wars fan, it’s pretty safe to say that this was the biggest news to come out so far this year. We all knew it was coming, but we didn’t know when. Well, it’s coming to both Disneyland and Walt Disney World in 2019! Unfortunately not much is known about Star Wars Land besides the fact that it will be the “largest ever, single-themed expansions” at both resorts. 2019 is so far away!

Hope you guys enjoyed my first blog! Let me know what you guys think about all of these announcements in the comments. Also, give me a like and a follow if you enjoyed my blog! I’ll me posting at least one every week!
